The Best Stuff in Life

Hey, everyone! How's it going? This is Porter Productions (for real) and I'm back to tell you all of what has been happening.  Cooper and I started 4th and 6th Grades on Monday, August 14th.  Here's how our summer went to get us to this point!

Enjoy!

Porter Productions

Mother's Day - To start, we had a very fun Mother's Day celebration by going to this wonderful brunch with Nana and Papa. There was all sorts of good foods, such as crepes, breakfast salads, omelets, and more. Plus, they also had good breakfast desserts, which was a bonus (Cooper and I both bee-lined for the desserts once we got there).

Memorial Day - For Memorial Day, we went up to Uncle Peter's cabin. We went on a hike, played a little bit of golf on the 17th hole, and played video games. We also went to the neighborhood clubhouse and played games like Foosball, Ping-Pong, Bocce Ball & Tennis.  One day we all participated in the "lawn games" that included sack races and a water balloon toss. I got 2nd place in the watermelon eating contest!  Check out more HERE!

After almost 4-years of visits, we finally took our picture by this cool sign, too!

Cooper's Activities

Football - Cooper played flag football for the first time this summer and finished with 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. He had a great team to play on, they called themselves The Punishers. 😃 His coach was super kind and a great teacher.

Swimming - Cooper is a great little swimmer. He and I were in the same swim class this year.

B-day - Cooper not only turned 9 this summer, but he also made his own birthday cakes (with only a tiny bit of help); one for his football team and one for us to celebrate with at home, with family and the Villagers.  Lucky guy got to be IN Hawaii on his actual birthday!

Jujitsu - And last but not least, Cooper moved up another belt level at Makoto Kai, to white belt with one-stripe.  That is two promotions in just six months.  Way to go, Coop.  Next stop, yellow belt!

My super fun Activities

Baseball - From March 5 - June 11, I played Woodland Little League baseball (the NY Mets), with no broken body parts. My team got 1st place in the regular season and 2nd place in the postseason.  Check out the throwing, catching , hitting and bubble blowing Pictures HERE

The Woodland Opera House - I loved performing in the Aristocats so much, that I decided to do the Opera House summer camp, Show Biz Kids, for a second summer. I rehearsed for 4 weeks then had 3 performances at the end. In June I auditioned for my second junior musical, Roald Dahl's Matilda. I was given the opportunity to play the role of Bruce Bogtrotter...the infamous cake eater (if you know the story)!   This week is dress rehearsal and opening night is Thursday, September 10!

(I'll have to share pictures and tell you all about it in the next edition of the Brotherly Blog!)

This last week I auditioned for my first adult musical at the Opera House, that had roles for kids:  The School of Rock!  I was offered the role of "James", a kid who plays security for the class and keeps an eye out for the principal when they're rehearsing instead of learning. Stay tuned....

My family, waiting for me to take the stage!

Family Fun Time

Mom's New Office - This summer, Mama got a new position in the math department: she is the new boss!! While Coop was at his martial arts summer camp one day at the end of June, Mommy and I helped Mama move out of her old office and in to her new one. We cleared out, cleaned up, organized and left her little surprises. Proud of you, Mom!!!

Maui, Hawai'i - In July we had a very fun trip to Maui, courtesy of Uncle Ken, for a whole week. We stayed in a beautiful condo, next to a very big resort on the beach. We swam everyday. There was tons of fun stuff to do near our condo, including snorkeling from a catamaran, zip-lining, going to COLD(!) Haleakala, lots of yummy virgin drinks and more. On Cooper's birthday we visited the Maui Ocean Center, and the Grand Wailea hosted a luau that night in his honor! 😉   We did get to spend a little time in Lahaina one afternoon, and see the beautiful, old Banyan Tree.  We are so sad for the community of Lahaina and the people of Maui; we are keeping them in our thoughts as they work to recover from the August fires. aMazing Maui pictures here

Canning Season - For the first time since planting our fruit trees, our apricot and plum trees finally produced enough for us to eat AND for Moms made a whole bunch of jam. YUM!

Santa Clara Cousins - We saw our SCU cousins twice this summer. We had super fun reunions both times.
With cousins Maria and Maite - we wrote, rehearsed and produced our own play in just 1-hour! 😀

Other Summer Fun - When not traveling, attending camp or performing, we enjoyed our usual summer activities at: our public library, camping in the backyard, a trip to the Sacramento Zoo with friends who have passes, and shows at the Opera House that I wasn't in.

We went to Oakland to see the Athletics play on August 5. It was a fun filled day with the Villagers, who are big SF Giants fans (we won't remind them that the A's beat the Giants 2-1 that day 😄)!

Then right before school started, we had a Nana Day-Camp, since she and Papa are still in Sacramento.  We had a fun day going to get new school shoes, having lunch together and having fun at Urban Air.
