It was with broken hearts and blurry eyes that we said goodbye to our sweet Sadie-girl last night. Her health started to decline about a month ago, and exponentially so in the last week. All acute symptoms, without doing invasive sedation and scoping, pointed to laryngeal paralysis. While a type of surgery was possible for some dogs, prognosis was not good for a dog Sadie's age, combined with additional chronic health issues that were growing more concerning. We chose to keep her comfortable and happy at home for as long as possible.
On the morning of Saturday, March 14, Sadie was no longer able to eat her handful of morning Cheerios, she could not drink water, nor did she want to go outside. By mid-day, Amanda was able to convince her to go for a walk, hoping maybe to just get her around the block. Sadie relented and then was allowed to dictate every turn and street-crossing...which she did for over 1-hour before returning the two of them to home. By late afternoon we had to call the vet; Sadie was resting peacefully, and no doubt already safely to the "Rainbow Bridge", before 6:15pm.
For all those who welcomed her arrival to our home back on June 1, 2007 and have enjoyed her, loved her, mailed her gifts and showered her with affection for so many years, we thank you. While Sadie was not the most social or forgiving pup with other dogs (though she had a few favorite 4-legged friends in her younger years!), she loved her people! This last week could not have provided her better weather, as she enjoyed her final days on sun-warmed pavers, cooled by gentle breezes and soft grass, once again turning green. Ironically, the weather has turned, now reflecting our emotions, as tears fall with the rain and happy thoughts of her come out with the sun.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support as we now navigate finding a new normal without this sweet girl in our home. Please take a moment to think of a special memory of her this Thursday, it would have been her 13th birthday.
With gratitude for the life we were allowed to share with her,
Amanda, Tina, Porter & Cooper

The Day Sadie Came Home, and we became Mommy & Mama for the first time |
With Mailman Bob, they were buddies!
|
Was always more interested in the critters at the pet store, then paying attention in puppy class! |
|
Unclefer was always good for a cuddle.... |
|
Agility wasn't her thing, but she could "weave" and play frisbee with the best of them! |
|
Yes, she became a baseball girl too, enjoying a paw-ful of games & always sharing Mama's hotdogs |
|
Gruncle Tom was always good for some kind of human snack! |
